Xaranna Okavango Tented Camp Game Viewing and Wildlife Activities
The areas surrounding Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp are home to a large number of species, including a number of species adapted to the semi-aquatic lifestyle, such as the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga. The area has large concentrations of elephant and buffalo. Occasionally wild dog, lions, leopards, cheetahs and roan and sable antelope are spotted. This area is to be enjoyed as a waterway wilderness, teaming with birdlife, fish and aquatic animals that call the Okavango Delta home. The area is a bird watcher’s paradise as there are over 400 species of birds including the African fish eagle, crested crane and sacred ibis.
Mokoro rides are what the Delta is best known for, and Xaranna Camp is in the perfect place to explore the waterways, floodplains and shallow lagoons of the Delta. Mokoro are poled by a guide who silently winds his way through the Delta in search of wildlife, who feed off the grass and reeds of the palm islands, like the lechwe, sitatunga, elephant, hippo and crocodile.
Fishing in the Delta is on a catch and release basis. Guests can try their hand at catching the fierce tiger fish! Motorised boat trips cover a larger area and are an optional activity.
