Camp Description

The lodge consists of 10 chalets offering luxury accommodation. The chalets are spacious and all units boast a small lounge as well as full bathroom facilities with a bathtub and outside shower. The main area offers extensive decks overlooking the permanent lagoon as well as a comfortable lounge, dining and bar area. The lodge also has a small library and swimming pool.

Game Viewing

The north eastern region of the Okavango Delta is remote and private and supports a huge variety of animal, plant and bird life. Elephants are abundant in the area as well as buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, jackal and a variety of antelope, including red lechwe. The birdlife is prolific and varied, ranging from water birds to shy forest dwellers. Mapula has permanent water all year round, hence offers a water wilderness experience.

Wildlife Activities

Game viewing is very good in this area and the trees around the Lodge are home to a huge variety of birds. Being in a permanent water area, Mapula Lodge can offer year round water activities, especially important during January - May when water levels in the Okavango can become too low in most area's to allow the use of the traditional mokoro. Guided walking safaris with experienced guides and tracker are available as well as night drives in search of nocturnal animals. In the early morning and late afternoons game drives are conducted in comfortable safari vehicles accompanied by expert guides.

How to Get there

ExpertBotswana can arrange flights to Botswana from Johannesburg or Cape Town into Maun or Kasane, where most safaris start and end. Transfers from Maun/Kasane are done by light aircraft into the camps. Inter-camp transfers are done by light aircraft. Guests will fly into the camp's airstrip where they will be met by a guide and vehicle for their road transfer to the camp.
