Game Viewing
Kanana is set deep in the Delta amongst grass covered islands formed by fertile eroded termite hills dotted with fig, palm and other trees providing shade and a look out for predators to spot their prey on the flood plain. The Kanana tract encompasses a necklace of islands on the Xudum River.
Enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity from July through to the summer months, a true highlight at Kanana which converts all visitors to avid 'twitchers' at first sight. Guided walks are highly recommended in this pretty area as well as fly or spin fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharp tooth catfish.
Wildlife Activities
Situated in a private concession a wide variety of activities is available at Kanana Camp and the focus of activities varies with the rising and falling levels of the Okavango Delta, your Professional guide will assist you in planning your days to best explore the area. Game drives in specially designed vehicles in the morning and late afternoon, into the evening on night drives. Alternatively you may explore the crystal clear waterways by mokoro or powerboats, and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. pike and sharp tooth catfish.
How to Get there
ExpertBotswana can arrange flights to Botswana from Johannesburg or Cape Town into Maun or Kasane, where most safaris start and end. Transfers from Maun/Kasane are done by light aircraft into the camps Inter-camp transfers are done by light aircraft, road, boat or mekoro.
Child Policy
Children of 7 years and older are accepted at Kanana Camp.
Electricity
- At Kanana electricity is generated to allow the operation of lighting and other basic facilities in camp.
- Re-charging of camera/video batteries is possible, arranged by the camp managers, provided guests bring the appropriate adaptors along to suit Botswana 220V power source.
- An international multi adaptor is recommended.
- The electricity system does not support the use of hair dryers.
Malaria
Malaria is found in the central, western and northern areas of Botswana.
