Game Viewing

Even though the Okavango Delta is technically known as a swamp, the water is remarkably clear, and free of impurities. It is also heavily populated with fish. So it will come as no surprise that this area boasts one of the highest concentrations of magnificent Fish Eagles on earth. A variety of birds, including herons, cormorants, pelicans, darters and storks.

Eagle Island Camp offers excellent game viewing. Buffalo herds in this region are very large with as many as 500 - 700 being seen at a time and Elephants are always around. Marvel at the prolific birdlife and visit Chief's Island in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, which teems with Zebra, Lion, Leopard, various antelope, Wildebeest and the ever-present Hippopotamus and Crocodile.

Wildlife Activities

Activities are dependent on the water levels. Activities throughout the year would typically include mekoro rides (dugout canoes), unless there is no water, and game walks. When water levels are too low for water activities, game viewing is conducted by vehicle or on foot. Between June and September when the water is high, guests can also take motorboat rides, and in the drier season, game drives.

  • Guided game and bird walks - one of the world's premier bird-watching locations.
  • Trips through waterways by motorised boats (water levels permitting).
  • Dugout canoes (mokoro) and dusk excursions in our 14-seater Sundowner cruiser.
  • Game flights in a light aircraft on request.
