Game Viewing
Chitabe offers land activities all year round. It is well known for its predator concentrations of cheetah, lion, leopard and wild dog. Night-drives can be very rewarding and offer, seeing the elusive nocturnal animals such as aardvark and pangolin. It also gives rare opportunities to view animals such as Civet Cat, Genet Cat, Porcupine, Serval, Caracal and Aardwolf.
Chitabe hosts a variety of wildlife, which includes Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. Wild dog are also known to frequent the area. Guests should also see Zebra, Reedbuck, Giraffe, Kudu, Impala, Tsessebe, Warthog, Baboons, Bushbuck.
What makes Chitabe unique to some of the other areas in the Okavango Delta is that it contains such a variety of habitats within close proximity. A finger of perennial swamps extends into the Chitabe reserve, which is inundated by water throughout the year. This variety of habitat, which ranges from the classic Okavango scenery with Illala Palms dotting the landscape, to open savannahs and acacia woodlands, gives rise to a surprising diversity of species, which allows Chitabe to offer guests a wide variety of game viewing and birding experiences
Wildlife Activities
- Land game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers - lead by a professional guide.
- The camp has 3 x 10 - seater Land Rovers each accommodating a maximum of seven guests, allowing all guests an outside seat.
- Night drives with spotlight.
- Walking Safaris are offered from camp on request basis.
- Hides: one within walking distance from the camp.
- Sleep outs at the hides on request.
How to Get there
ExpertBotswana can arrange flights to Botswana from Johannesburg or Cape Town into Maun or Kasane, where most safaris start and end. Transfers from Maun/Kasane are done by light aircraft into the camps. Inter-camp transfers are done by light aircraft.
Child Policy
Children over the age of 8 years are welcome.
Electricity
- Camp has 220v generator powered electricity that runs for 7hrs per day when guests are out on activities.
- When guests return from daily activities, generators generally switched off (for peace in camp).
- Inverter System is used for lighting and fans in each guest tent 24hrs/day.
- Plug points are available in each tent, and the office, for charging of video batteries only. Hence bring spare battery, charging unit and adaptors.
Malaria
Malaria is found in the central, western and northern areas of Botswana.
