Camp Description

The camp's main dining area is a romantic white canvas marquee, where everyone meets for meals at a long communal dining table.

Six spacious, stylish canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms, featuring outdoor bucket showers (for those who want to feel the Kalahari breeze on their skin) have been fashioned in classical 1940's style creating an oasis of civilization in what can be the harshest of stark environments.

Grass matting underfoot, cool cotton sheets and mahogany and brass campaign-style kit from the family safari stores form a striking contrast with the rugged wilderness viewed from the comfort of one's own verandah.

Game Viewing

The Makgadikgadi region is home to some of the world's largest salt pans and offers a truly unique ecosystem where guests can experience exhilarating and contrasting activities including observing inquisitive tiny meerkats, adrenalin rushing quad bike rides on the salt pans, spectacular star-gazing at night and explore remote archaeological sites. The concession adjoins the Makgadikgadi National Park with its sweeping views of golden grasslands and desert palms that line the horizon. Guests can experience the migration of zebra and wildebeest, the second biggest in Africa, and the last remaining in Southern Africa. A safari to San Camp offers a complete desert experience with the emphasis on species unique to the area including aardvark, gemsbuck and springbuck. It is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyaena and experience habituated but, wild meerkats!

San Camp offers guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with the tiny and fascinating meerkats. Guided walks with Bushmen Trackers offer a glimpse into their ancient culture. Game drives are offered in open 4x4 vehicles to experience unique desert wildlife, such as the elusive and rare brown hyena. A visit to Chapman's Baobab is also an option, campsite of Livingstone & Selous, one of the three largest and oldest trees in Africa. During the dry season the more adventurous guests can enjoy quad bike rides across the saltpans. A highlight during the wet season is the spectacular migration of zebra and wildebeest.
