Lodge Description


The camp is situated on a low grassland hill amongst an oasis of desert palms and Kalahari acacia. The centre of the camp is a romantic canvas gazebo where guests meet for meals at a long communal dining table.


The camp exist of 10 green spacious and stylish canvas tents 7 Double and 3 twin tents with en-suite bathrooms featuring indoor and outdoor showers. Spacious and stylish - with a sophisticated 1940's safari atmosphere.

Game Viewing


The Makgadikgadi region is home to some of the world's largest salt pans and offers a unique ecosystem where guests can experience exhilarating and contrasting activities including observing inquisitive tiny meerkats, adrenalin rushing quad bike rides on the salt pans, spectacular star-gazing at night and explore remote archaeological sites. The concession adjoins the Makgadikgadi National Park with its sweeping views of golden grasslands and desert palms that line the horizon. Guests can experience the migration of zebra and wildebeest, the second biggest in Africa, and the last remaining in Southern Africa. A safari to Jack's Camp offers a complete desert experience with the emphasis on species unique to the area including aardvark, gemsbuck and springbuck. It is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyaena and experience habituated but, wild meerkats!


Wildlife Activities


Activities at Jacks Camp vary and are seasonal. The wet season is generally from late November through to March and into April. Activities available during the wet season include game drives in open customized 4x4 vehicles; bird walks offer guests the opportunity to view migratory waterfowl (flamingos, storks, Wattled crane, ducks, terns, etc.) Weather permitting and depending on the amount of rainfall received, guests will have usage of 4WD quad bikes and vehicles on the salt pans, an exhilarating way to explore the area. Night game drives provide the opportunity to view migration and unique desert wildlife including the Brown Hyena, Aardvark, Aardwolf etc). Guided game walks with Bushman trackers are a highlight and guests can observe desert wildlife such as Gemsbok, Meerkat and Springbok. Guests can also visit to the historic Baobab Trees, the campsites of Livingstone, Selous and Baines). The dry season allows more extensive use of the quad bikes out on the pans. All other activities are available as well.

How to Get there


ExpertBotswana can arrange scheduled flights into Johannesburg, and then on to Maun in Botswana. From Maun, you will take a smaller charter plane for your light aircraft transfer into Jack's Camp which will take approximately 50 minutes.

Child Policy


Children of 8 years and older are accepted at Jacks Camp. The camp does accommodate children under the age of 8 on a request basis (manager's discretion), providing guests book a private vehicle.


Electricity


  • There is no electricity at Jacks Camp.
  • Guests can charge camera batteries in the Mess Tent, please bring an adaptor for a round 3 pin plug.


Malaria


Malaria is found in the central, western and northern areas of Botswana.
