Camp Description

Built on a palm island in a sea of floodplain savannah, Zarafa's 4 luxury tents are all en-suite with private plunge pools. Erected on wooden decks, each tent enjoys wide vistas of the surrounding floodplains. The emphasis is on intimate hospitality in the tradition of a by-gone safari era. The thatch bar and viewing deck overlook a small, but active waterhole, whilst meals are taken in the warmth of the well appointed "mess tent".

  • Main area encompasses a canvas and reed-walled dining and lounge area.
  • Thatched bar and viewing deck overlooking a small waterhole.
  • Small waterhole with sunken hide.
  • Campfire.
  • En-suite bathroom with basin, flush toilet and shower.

Game Viewing

The Selinda Reserve is blessed with a variety of habitats - wide open savannah dotted with attractive palm trees; thirst-quenching waterways surrounded by dry woodland and then the river systems and floodplains themselves that draw thousands of animals to it, as they are forced to quench their thirst in the dry season along these waterways.

The Selinda floodplains are host to a wide diversity of antelope and plains game. Game drives are fruitful with a multiplicity of antelope, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, and plenty of elephant, and buffalo to be seen. Predator viewing is exceptional including the hippo-killing lions of Selinda, leopard, wild dog and cheetah.

Wildlife Activities

Daily activities revolve around morning, afternoon and night game drives with experienced professional guides in custom built 4x4 Land Cruisers. Short walks from camp are encouraged. Accompanied by an armed professional guide (all walking guides are in possession of a Botswana "Full Professional Guide" license), these walks give guests the chance to "touch the Earth" and be introduced to some of Africa's less prominent wildlife. Siesta time can also be spent in the sunken hide at the waterhole's edge.

The Selinda is host to a wide variety bird (300+ species) and wildlife including: several species of antelope, hippo, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, cheetah, wild dog, lion and plenty of elephant. Night drives allow guests to see such nocturnal species as the small cats, porcupine, springhare, hyaena and perhaps even the elusive leopard.
