Camp Description

The lodge consists of 8 desert tents under thatch, designed to blend into the area, while the main area consists of a dining room, lounge area and a viewing deck. The camp also has a swimming pool, interpretation centre/library, curio shop as well as a family room.

Game Viewing

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is famous for the migratory animals such as springbok, zebra and wildebeest in their thousands. Predators are plentiful with lions, especially the famous Kalahari black-maned lion, cheetah, leopard and jackals. Brown hyenas and wild dog are also found in the area. Several species of antelope can be found in the area which includes eland, springbok, steenbok, gemsbok, hartebeest, kudu and duiker. Honey Badgers are regular visitors as well as ground squirrels and meerkat. Bird life is prolific with the world's heaviest flying bird - the Kori Bustard being common as well as the Black Korhaan who continuously calls during the daytime. Ostrich are seen roaming free, usually in large flocks. All the Sand Grouse species identified in southern Africa live here from the Double Banded to the Namaqua which are a sight to see in the mornings, when they flock to the waterholes in their thousands, to drink and bathe in the water holes. Raptors from the most common Pale-chanting Goshawk to the Rock Kestrel, Bateleurs and Brown and Tawny Eagles are also seen regularly. The dry season (May-September) is also a good time to visit the Central Kalahari Game Reserve as the animals congregate close to any surface water and pans.

Wildlife Activities

Tau Pan Camp offers game drives in open 4x4 vehicles as well as guided bush walks. Activities are accompanied by experienced guides who will share their knowledge and explain their culture. Tau Pan is situated inside a game reserve and an ecological sensitive area, hence off road game drives and night drives are not possible.

How to Get there

ExpertBotswana can arrange flights to Botswana from Johannesburg or Cape Town into Maun or Kasane, where most safaris start and end. The camp can be accessed by air. The airstrip is approximately 5kms from camp and the flight time from Maun will be approximately 50 minutes.

Child Policy

Tau Pan Camp accepts children, for 6 - 12 years, a private vehicle needs to be booked. Children under 6 years are welcome only if exclusive use of the camp is booked. Children over 12 are treated as adults.
